What I'm reading
Three books on the studio shelf right now:
Morandi: The Art of Silence by Janet Abramowicz. The reproductions are mediocre but the catalog raisonné is a gift; you can see how thinly he was working in the late forties versus the early sixties.
Writings by Agnes Martin. I read a few pages each morning while I wait for the kettle. She is exactly as serious as I want a painter to be.
And The Narrow Road to the Deep North, in the Sam Hamill translation. Bashō is the model for what a studio note should be — short, exact, weather-dependent.
